Well-being is a bit of a buzz word right now, but ultimately it's about identifying what you need to do to feel as good as you possibly can. And focusing on your well-being after a breast cancer diagnosis is a must.
It's important though to understand that well-being isn't about ticking boxes (which of course, we're all very good at!), it's about focusing on how you're feeling. Ask yourself these questions:
Do you feel like you have as much energy as you would like?
Do you feel that you wake up in a positive frame of mind?
Do you feel like you can do the things with your body that you would like to do?
Do you feel like you are showing up as well as you can?
Are you connected to yourself in a way that you can ask yourself these questions and understand the answers that come through?
If you can answer yes to all of the above then your well-being is in a perfect state! If you've answered no to any of the above (which let's be honest, most of us do) then it's important to start prioritizing your well-being. Here are some suggestions to get you started:
Meditation - you can do this yourself, with a practitioner, or even through an app (I can highly recommend Headspace)
Journaling - do it with a pen and paper or electronically, but make a note every day of what you are grateful for and what makes you happy
Movement - understand what sort of movement your body needs and get moving!
There are lots of ways to improve your well-being, however everyone's well-being is completely personal and unique and therefore it's important to understand what works for you. The most important thing here though is that you have to make time to do this. So, the biggest tip is to:
Diarise and put time aside for your well-being!
So don't delay...start today! Sit down and figure out how you are going to focus on and improve your well-being.
